History of the Vineyard
A tradition of stewardship
The vineyard, its accompanying fields, fruit trees and pond inhabit a special corner of the world. Located in a valley between Cameron and Levenseller Mountains and just five miles from Camden Harbor, the property has a unique microclimate and a rich history. This magical setting proved to be an inspiration for two visionary Maine artists/entrepreneurs nearly a decade ago. They were John and Stephanie Clapp, and they knew they had found something very special.

Having traveled extensively throughout Europe, John and Stephanie were enchanted with the rich, vibrant vineyards of Tuscany and artistry of wines in Portugal, Spain, and Italy. Why, they asked, couldn’t a little bit of Tuscany be made to flourish right here on the Maine coast? After purchasing the property nearly a decade ago, they worked through their first winter to clear and prepare the then-overgrown fields for their first plantings of vines. The Clapp’s first harvests and vintages came shortly thereafter, as did the conversion of the beautiful old barn into a gift and wine shop. After nearly 10 years of hard but rewarding work, the husband and wife team were ready for a rest. With the purchase of the Vineyard from them in February of 2007, we proudly took on the stewardship of a successful winery and piece of history. John has stayed on as our vintner and both he and Stephanie have been wonderful guides as we work to carry on the tradition they have established.
